Intellectual Property Advisory Committee (IPAC) of the University of Moratuwa was established in 2009 with prime objective of encouraging the utilization of results of research and Development for national development by converting innovative findings to practical applications while protecting intellectual property rights. Prof. Hiroomi Homma from the Toyohashi University, Japan along with International Center for Engineering Education Development (ICEED) for University industry collaboration were instrumental in developing an IP Policy and Technology Commercialization policy for the University.
The IPAC is mainly handling policy matters pertaining to intellectual property rights and commercialization of inventions and Intellectual Property Assessment Committee (IPaC) is processing applications for intellectual property rights up to filing at the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO).
IPAC is presently chaired by Prof. JAKS Jayasinghe, Senior Professor attached to the Department of Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering. Other members of the Committee include a Council Member and a Professor or a Senior Academic Staff Members representing each academic department of the University. Meetings of the IPAC and IPaC are presently convened once a month.
